WBC super lightweight world champion Subriel Matías will defend his title against Britain’s Dalton Smith on January 10 in New York, at a venue still to be confirmed.
Matías (23-2, 22 KOs) captured the Green and Gold Belt on July 12, 2025, when he defeated Dominican Alberto Puello by majority decision in Queens. It was the first time in his career that the Puerto Rican secured a victory on the scorecards to become champion.
Smith (18-0, 13 KOs), on the other hand, arrives undefeated and with a rapid rise in the division. The Englishman claimed the WBC Silver super lightweight title in 2024 by knocking out José Zepeda, and in 2025 he consolidated it with a successful defense while also adding international experience.
The fight will mark Matías’ first defense of the world championship, as he faces one of the most promising talents in British boxing.
