10 years ago, the Lifetime President of the World Boxing Council, Mr. José Sulaimán Chagnón, was appointed Honorary Citizen of Brockton, Massachusetts, by then-Mayor Linda Balzotti.
On that occasion Don José was in Brockton as part of the preparations to bring to that city a statue in honor of Rocky Marciano.
The day began with a visit to Rocky Marciano’s former home, where he was greeted by current owner Mark Casier, who showed him photographs and memorabilia of the historic heavyweight champion.
They later made a tour where the statue of Marciano would be located with a meeting at City Hall, where Mayor Linda Balzotti recognized Don José as a distinguished citizen of Brockton, Massachusetts.
The following year, exactly on September 23, 2012, the Rocky Marciano statue was unveiled, fulfilling one more goal of Don José Sulaimán.
