2018-2030 Mexico’s physical action plan

The Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation for Sport, the Mexican Olympic Committee, the World Boxing Council and Scholas Ocurrentes are combining to develop the  2018-2030 global activation plan.

In order to achieve a 15 percent Global decrease in physical inactivity in adults and adolescents,  the  “Plan for Physical Activation for a Social Sport” was presented in a ceremony at the Mexican Olympic Committee, adhering to  protocols to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Aligned with the 2018-2030 physical activation plan promoted by the World Health Organization, it is intended to boost the global prevalence of physical activity in adults and adolescents by 15 percent.

The event was held in the lobby of the Mexican Olympic Committee with the assistance of the president of the sports organization, Carlos Padilla Becerra; the head of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán; and the director of the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation for Sports, Daniel Aceves Villagrán; as well as various representatives of the public and private sector, the Ministry of Public Education and academic institutions.

Daniel Aceves stressed that the physical activation plan contains information endorsed by the National Institute of Public Health and requires a 100-day follow-up to transform physical activation and eating habits to counteract the effects of the pandemic, whose studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, indicate that on average Mexicans have gained 6 kilos during this global health crisis.

For his part, Mauricio Sulaimán commented:

“I would like to thank Mr. Padilla for his hospitality and his efforts to promote sports. The glory of Mexico lays on the Olympic sports. Since childhood, Mexicans dream of being great athletes and representing our homeland. I am very honored for being here. I represented Mexico when I was 12 as a baseball player and being today at these facilities again makes me feel very happy, ”he commented.

“At the WBC we are unconditionally committed to this program to change the lives of many people. We must focus on moving forward based on national unity, doing our bit. I feel very happy to be in the company of great personalities. We will work hard in the WBC to promote in Mexico and the whole world this great initiative.”

Additionally, the multisport field was presented at the Centro Deportivo Olímpico Mexicano. The first of its kind where a 5-ball game was played, with Mauricio Sulaimán making the first pitch. In this space people  may also practice other sports activities.
