Dirrell vs Yildirim for the super middleweight belt
Anthony Dirrell of the United States fights Turkish Avni Yildirum for the vacant super middleweight title of the World Boxing Council, on February 23 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in an attractive card that will be broadcast by FOX (10 pm ET / 7 pm PT) .
Dirrell (32-1-1, 24 KOs) was ordered to have a championship match against Yildirim (21-1, 12 KOs) after the undefeated 168-pound champion David Benavidez (20-, 17 KOs) was declared “Champion in recess” at the WBC Convention last October.
Benavidez was suspended for six months after an adverse result in a test conducted as part of the WBC Clean Boxing Program.
“This chance to be a WBC champion feels good and it motivates me. Yildirim is a good fighter and I will be ready for the challenge,” promised Dirrell.
For his part Avni commented: “This is a great opportunity and I won`t miss it. I will fight to achieve my goal of becoming the first Turkish fighter to win the WBC World Championship belt. ”
