The first “Torneo de Boxeo de la Ciudadanía y su Policía 2023” organized by the SSC and the WBC concluded

The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC, in Spanish) of Mexico City and the World Boxing Council (WBC) held the closing ceremony of the tournament.” More than 120 boxers have participated in this event, from the six Subsecretariats of the Department.

This tournament is part of the initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of sports and healthy inter-institutional competition.

The Secretary of Citizen Security, Mr. Pablo Vázquez Camacho, acknowledged that engaging in sports is an “indispensable tool for the comprehensive development of women and men in the police force,” and he commended them for their dedication and efforts, which serve as an inspiration to all.

“Boxing programs, motivational talks by boxers like Irma and ‘La Barbie,’ whom I greatly appreciate for their daily presence in schools throughout the city, form an alliance that builds strength and provides an example of hope. This allows us to connect with our youth to reduce violence, crime rates, and addiction problems,” highlighted the SSC’s head.

In his remarks, Mr. Francisco Javier Moreno Montaño, the Subsecretary of Traffic Control for the SSC, emphasized that the tournament also served as a tribute to David “El Macetón” Cabrera. He praised Cabrera’s illustrious career as a former police officer and his role as a symbol of service and dedication to the community.

It is worth noting that this inaugural “Torneo de Boxeo de la Ciudadanía y su Policía 2023” featuring 120 boxers, received the endorsement of the WBC. The former world champion, Mariana “La Barbie” Juárez, attended the event on behalf of WBC President, Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán.

The event also saw the presence of Paulina Salazar Patiño, the Subsecretary for Citizen Engagement and Crime Prevention, as well as Omar Reyes Colmenares, the Subsecretary of the Penitentiary System, and Marcela Figueroa Franco, the Subsecretary of Institutional Development. It was also attended by special guests and prominent figures from the boxing world.
