Albornoz, a Latin American WBC champion, training in Japan

On February 10, 2024, Juan Manuel Albornoz, the champion of the Latin American tournament in Brazil 2022, arrived in Osaka, Japan, to join Tomoki Kameda’s training camp as the main sparring partner. Tomoki Kameda, a former two-time world champion, is set to fight on March 31, 2024, in Japan.

This unique opportunity for the recently turned professional, traveling outside of South America for the first time, emerged during a meeting of attendees at the WBC 2023 Convention held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Tatsuru Yoshikawa from TMK Gym in Osaka, Japan, Brad Norman from WBC Cares South Africa, and Gustavo Zacarias from Argentina met on several occasions to discuss initiatives that would further assist young boxers from their respective countries in developing their careers and gaining international experience.

These meetings and the relationships established during the convention paved the way for this young boxer from Mar del Plata, Argentina, to travel to Japan. There, he would experience world-class training while learning and immersing himself in Japanese culture and lifestyle.

The TKM team opened the doors of their gym to Juan Albornoz and welcomed the Argentine boxer into their home. TMK was also impressed by the Argentine boxer’s work ethic, skills, as well as his friendly and warm character.
