Tragedy struck for a second time on September 19th, as on the thirty second anniversary of the devastating earthquake of 1985, Mexico was again shaken and riven by another earthquake, this time with magnitude of 7.1.

Collapsed buildings and the loss of human lives were the result of this latest disaster; Jojutla and Tetela, municipalities in the State of Morelos were especially hard hit.

Local people saw their houses, schools and even their churches crumble. However, the hope remained intact, sustained and boosted by Maestra María Esther Millán, a resident of Jojutla who, without thinking twice, opened the doors of the Centro Deportivo Niños Héroes as a vital temporary refuge.

In the first instance, this home housed 70 families who were attended in a comprehensive manner. Today there are still 66, who continue to receive all the attention and are waiting to resolve their situation.

A community that has learned to heal and overcome the adversities. A month ago, this hostel was visited by the WBC family and the Scholas Ocurrentes program, led by its President Mauricio Sulaimán, who was accompanied by great green and gold champions with the purpose of bringing a little joy and a lot of hope.

On that occasion Mr. Sulaimán promised to return and bring a boxing training module. That promise was fulfilled and the WBC recognized in a very special way the wonderful volunteers of the medical and cooking area who from the first day have been magnificent.

"This is a very special day for me, coming to this hostel and discovering the spirit of these people has been inspiring. One month ago it was gray. Today there is a clear blue sky of hope!

"You are the true champions, because you have learned to get up from this terrible knockdown that nature dealt us.

"Since that visit the whole family of the WBC left a bit of their heart here in Jojutla and today we want to endorse that commitment ". -he commented-

He praised the tremendous and caring work of Teacher Esther who has become the inspiration that has been able to guide and take care of the families that live here.

Mr. Bernardo Arista, who came on behalf of the Government, stressed that alongside the support of the citizenship and some Jojutla associations, the Ministry of Interior is also helping.

He said that the goal of the Federal Government is to return the inhabitants of the damaged houses of Jojutla and Tetela to normal, integrating their activities and lifestyles.

Esther confirms that the refuge will remain active until everyone's well-being is assured.

"We have been blessed by a large number of benefactors, but we never imagined that a boxing entity like the WBC would turn up and support us. Today is a very special day for us with the delivery of this boxing module."

The WBC will be back on January 6th with a giant Rosca de Tres Reyes. Everyone is promised a slice!
