Miguel "Alacran" Berchelt successfully  made the first defense of the World Boxing Council super featherweight title by defeating formidable and forbidding former  champion Takashi Miura via a wide unanimous decision at the Inglewood Forum in California.

From the opening bell,  Berchelt established and solidified his position as boxer against fighter/slugger.  He spun Miura to the  canvas with a crisp well time right  hook, for a cracking start, winning the round by 10-8. Momentarily grounded, but certainly not undeterred Mirura,  the veteran of war after war, stalked Berchelt, who used superb footwork to stay masterfully and mostly out of range, opportunely often opening up with his own flurries of quick combinations.

As both tired down the stretch, Miura finally began  landing crunching left hooks to the body and stinging lefts to Berchelt`s head.  But incoming far exceeded outgoing and Miura`s  swelling face bore testament to Berchelt`s thudding accuracy.  Aware that Miura was swinging for the bleachers, Berchelt warily kept his boxing together.  Knowing full well he was a country mile behind on the scorecards, Miura desperately sought a  KO in the final rounds, but Berchelt's technique was significantly superior. Never comfortable Vs the grimly determined  Miura,  concern constantly etching his face, Berchelt  none the less comprehensively outboxed him.

The Judges unanimously reflected  Berchelt`s technical superiority, 120-109, 119-108 and 116-111.
