THE GREAT RODRIGO VALDEZ HAS DIED
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán decree a day of mourning for the death of one of the greatest athletes of Colombia, Rodrigo Valdez, who`s died aged 70, due to health problems derived from diabetes.
Valdez was the last opponent of Carlos Monzón and the only one who managed to send the Argentine fighter to the canvas in his time as world champion.
With a record of 63 wins (43 KO´s), 8 losses and 2 draws, on May 25, 1974 Valdez defeated Bennie Briscoe in Monte Carlo for green and gold championship triumph.
The WBC prays God to give his family and friends solace at this difficult time. We also salute a great champion, who`ll never be forgotten.
