GUKUMATZ WINS IV EDITION OF THE "JOSÉ SULAIMÁN" HORSE RACE
Gukumatz and jockey Miguel Angel Rodríguez won the IV edition "José Sulaimán", race at the Hippodrome of the Americas in Mexico city.
Gukumatz romped home by six lengths. In a nifty time of 1: 12. minutes, in a competition that was seen and enjoyed by all the family Sulaimán Saldívar.
Arareko ridden by Sebastián Morales was second, while in third place was Garrobo with the experienced rider Rubén Escalona and in fourth Melodies with Javier Matías Barajas.
The winner Miguel Angel Rodriguez is an apprentice jockey who triumphed in the fourth race, held each year in memory of Lifetime President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), José Sulaimán Chagnón.
At the end of the competition, in the winners' circle Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC, was honored by the race in homage to his Father.
"My Father used to enjoy horse races in his youth and now the entire family enjoys it, We feel the spirit of Don Jose," he said, accompanied by his siblings Hector and Claudia, nephews and cousins.
For Mauricio, horse racing has similarities to boxing: " The horse as the fighters are protected, If they have a fever or a dental problem, they do not participate, They take care of them, as we to the boxers."
About the race, he said: "It was exciting and the winner like Julio Cesar Chavez gave them no chance.From the beginning he dominated the competition and won with a great distance compared to second place."
