DRS. PAUL WILLIAMS AND DAVID HOVDA SUMMARIZES BRAIN INJURY RESEARCH AT THE WBC CONVENTION
During our last WBC Convention, celebrated in Hollywood, Florida, one of the most important aspect addressed were the medical issued, which has been always fundamental to the WBC.
The Director of the WBC Medical Committee, Dr. Paul Wallace, talked about the recommendations and results from the different researches at the UCLA by the WBC, led by Dr. Hovda regarding brain injuries.
He explained that during 2017, MRI tests will be performed in boxers annually, emergency procedures will be improved , Ring Officials will be advised, amateur boxing information will be gathered. He was clear stating that any single female match will last more than 10 rounds of 2 minutes.
He also described the amazing complexity on brain injuries, explaining that tuntil now it is not that clear what a concussion is or what happens inside the brain; however, he commented that at UCLA the medical team have performed several studies proving that once after suffering a concussion the brain uses a type of alternative fuel, rather than glucose, as conclusion, the usage of glucose in concussion treatment must be mandatory in order to protect the affected fiber.
