China, the next Boxing capital

Five years have passed since the WBC celebrated its 46th Annual Convention in China, a country of ancient culture, full of beautiful traditions, which invented the compass, paper, printing and gunpowder.
The convention took place in Chengdu where all the boxing family was welcomed with great hospitality by the government of Chengdu and China. They created a unique and unparalleled event in an old, historic and magnificent country, which planted the seed of a promising future for boxing.
Promoter Don King presented a card at the Sichuan Gymnasium where, Marco Antonio Barrera and Sammy Ventura faced each other.
The fight ended in the fourth round by a TKO victory for Barrera who was very superior to his rival since the first round and  referee Kenny Bayless stoppd the fight.
Since that time, the seed of Boxing was planted, a new direction for Chinese boxing was to emerge, matching perhaps, the cards in Japan, Thailand and South Korea, among other Eastern countries.
Proof of this was the first world championship fight in the legendary country where local boxer Xiong Zhao Zhong was unanimously crowned WBC strawweight champion , in a sold out at the City Stadium in Kunming, China, on 24 November.
Xiong Zhao Zhong not only highlighted his country, but also made history being the first Chinese fighter in becoming world champion.
With the spotlight directed in his career, Xiong faces a new challenge, the first defense of his crown this coming June 28 against Denver Cuello at the World Trade Centre in Dubai. A major event for this nation.
