Italy's former world champion Sandro Lopopolo, passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 in Milan-his hometown, due to a complication from a respiratory infection. Lopopolo also conquered the silver medal in the 1960 Rome Olympics.
Lopopolo was a brave fighter who also liked to box from a distance. On April 29, 1966 he defeated tough Venezuelan Carlos Hernandez by decision to conquer the WBC super lightweight title. Lopopolo shaped an impressive record of 59 wina, 10 losses and 2 draws with 20 KO’s, and retired in 1973. Rest in peace dear Champ.
