Third time lucky for El Veneno
Marco Antonio "El Veneno" Rubio is working and planning to make it third time lucky for the WBC middleweight title, when he fights Italy's Domenico Spada on April 5th in Cuidad Delicias, Chihuahua.
Rubio has fought for the title twice, not being able to continue after nine bruising rounds against Kelly Pavlik in 2009. He fought well but dropped a unanimous decison to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2011.
Spada who's also no spring chicken at the same age of thirty three, has twice lost to Sebastian Zbik for the WBC Interim title.
And it's the WBC Interim title which is up for grabs this time around . Rubio is ranked number one, while Spada who's the WBC's Silver Champion is classified two. Their fight will be in the City's Gran Estadio, which holds ten thousand fans. Whoever wins gets to fight the winner of the Sergio Martinez Vs Miguel Cotto clash. The fight is being done by Promociones Del Pueblo.
Rubio has already undergone a month and a half of rugged training in Oxnard, California with renoun Robert Garcia. He says he's had plenty of excellent sparring against middleweights, super middleweights and even one or two heavyweights.
Cuidad Delicias is celbrating the eighty first anniversary of its founding on April 1st. Four days later El Veneno- a beloved son of Chihuahua State, fights for a crucially important WBC title. What a tonic would be if he could find the antidote and triumph.
