At the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York, Diego De La Hoya defeated José Salgado in 7 rounds, to retain his NABF super bantamweight title.

With the victory, De La Hoya improved his record to 21-0 with 10 knockouts, while Salgado, former World Cup contender, left the ring with a record of 36-5-2 and 29 knockouts. The match was broadcast on ESPN and it took place during the Induction Ceremony weekend of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York.

From the beginning, Diego's best boxing and aggressiveness was evident, winning most of the rounds. The outcome came in the seventh, when Salgado's corner decided not to continue with the contest.

De La Hoya had not fought since September last year, when he defeated former champ Randy Caballero in Las Vegas.
