Undefeated World Boxing Council Super welterweight world Champion Jermell Charlo, successfully defended his crown for the third occassion, by defeating  former world champion Austin Trout via MD.

Younger, more athletic and hungrier, Jermell, dropped Austin with a hard left right combination in the third, and the older man briefly went to one knee in the ninth. The match which smouldered but  only occasionally flared,m  ended with scores of 118-108, 115-112, and a deeply puzzling 113-113 draw.

"I went fishing, I tried to grab some trout, but I could not hook it," Charlo said after the fight. "I know they're used to seeing me knock them out, but at least they saw me take over the job, He's a veteran, a real fighter, but I do not know what those judges were looking at, I won the fight."

Trout had faced Jermell's twin in May 2016, losing on that occasion by unanimous decision. After that match, he lost to Jarrett Hurd when the Referee stopped the fight due to injury and later won a unanimous decision against Juan De Angel. The defeat was the third in the last four fights for Trout.
Jermell keeps his perfect record in 31 wins, with no losses and 15 knockouts.  Trout, on the other hand left the ring with a record of 31-5, 17 knockouts.
