The World Boxing Council featherweight champion  Gary Russell Jr will defend his crown against Joseph "JoJo" Diaz Jr  this Saturday at MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, on a card that will be broadcast live on Showtime.

Russell Jr., 29 (28-1, 17 KOs), from Capitol Heights, Maryland, has defended his crown twice, after dethroning former Mexican champion Jhonny Gonzalez (65-10, 54 KOs).

A 2008 Olympian, he  comes from defeating Colombian Oscar Escandón (25-3, 17 KOs), who held the interim title.

Diaz (26-0, 14 KOs), also a former Olympian from Downey, California, and 25 years old, comes from knocking out Mexican world champion, Victor "Vikingo" Terrazas, in Indio, California.

As part of the WBC safety standards, both fighters have successfully submitted their respective 30- and 7-day pre-weigh ins , as well as their MRI and medical exams. We appreciate the commitment of these warriors and their respective teams in complying with these vital requirements.
