Unbeaten Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk fights Frenchman Mehdi Amar for the interim light heavyweight title of the World Boxing Council this Saturday in the Cathedral of Boxing, Madison Square Garden.
 
Gvozdyk (14-0, 12 KOs), an Olympic medalist from Kharkiv, Ukraine, enters this fight having won 12 of his last 14 bouts by knockout, including his NABF light heavyweight title fights. Gvozdyk has an eight-fight winning streak. He enthused:
 
"I feel very happy about this fight. I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and it is an honor for me to contest the  WBC world title. I'm excited to fight at  Madison Square Garden, New York, as it's  'The Mecca of Boxing'. I don't know much about my opponent, but we're going to discover more about him on the night."
 
Amar (34-5-2, 16 KO's) from Marseille, France, will debut in the United States when he faces Gvozdyk and this will be his third fight outside of his native France. This absorbing encounter, will be the 1,999 championship fight in the history of the World Boxing Council.
